Monday Morning You Sure Look Fine....

Monday morning we packed and said our good-byes to Dennis and Mimi. Thanks so much for sharing your beautiful home with us and making us feel so welcomed, Dennis and Mimi! We enjoyed every second and every adventure with you! Our visit went by way too quickly! We appreciate your kindness more than we can say!
Ladd drove us safely to Williamsburg, Virginia. He gets the “Stamina Award” because I slept most of the way here! After we checked into our hotel we went to get our three-day passes for “Colonial Williamsburg”. We roamed around “Colonial Williamsburg” visiting a couple of the houses like the tailor’s shop, the silversmith shop, and the Governor’s Palace. In front of the Wythe house, we heard a tour guide in period costume tell about how Mr. Wythe was murdered in that house. Mr. Wythe was planning to leave all his money and belongings to his great-nephew, but apparently he wasn’t dying soon enough for his nephew who poisoned him. One of the servants told Mr. Wythe it was his nephew, and before he died, Mr. Wythe cut his great-nephew out of his will. His great-nephew was tried and found not guilty. However, the great-nephew then was arrested for stealing horses and hung for the crime. “Just desserts” as the tour guide said! We also heard about the supposed ghost of Mr. Wythe’s niece who roams the house. We then came upon “Charlton’s Coffeehouse” and went in with a small group of people. This was a popular coffee house where founders of our country and others met to debate and share/hear the latest news. In 1765, an angry crowd protested against the Stamp Act and confronted the appointed tax collector for Virginia on the steps of this coffeehouse! When we went inside we were all seated and shared coffee, tea, or hot chocolate with a famous Colonial Reverend, (whose name I cannot remember…sorry). The Reverend was dressed in period clothing and carried on a conversation with us as if we were present in Colonial times. He told me I could not attend his divinity school, but said they needed a new cook and asked if I could cook…LOL!  By the way, the chocolate we drank was not like the hot chocolate we have today. Since we have three days to explore “Colonial Williamsburg” and because we were tired, we left to get something to eat before calling it a night.
We ended up at an Italian restaurant called “Sal’s”. I had a penne dish and Ladd had a chicken parmesan sub. Both of us felt the meals were just O.K. If my memory is correct, this is the first mediocre meal we’ve had on our trip, so I guess we can’t complain too much.  Then we headed back to the hotel to get some rest so we’re ready for more Williamsburg adventures tomorrow!
