We arrived in Nashville Monday around 3:30 and checked into the Holiday Inn. Just as soon as we could unpack a few things and change, we headed to "The Blue Bird Cafe." This famous club is named "Blue Bird" after the RCA label and has given "breaks" to many song writers and singers. Monday night is song-writers' open-mike night. (No, we had no intention of performing anything with the possible exception of staying awake later than usual!) We waited in line for an hour in the wind and rain with many musicians who hoped to perform at "The Blue Bird Cafe." The wait in the wind and the rain did not seem that bad for two reasons. First, it was truly mild compared to the freezing temperatures and 27" of snow we left home in New York. Second, we met and had great conversations with lots of interesting hopeful musicians and their parents, families, and friends. It is a small place and there was a limit of 75 people allowed in at a time. Ladd and I were about numbers 70 and 71, and were happy to be inside! I ordered a coffee with Bailey's to warm up and we ate some munchies as about 25 people presented songs they had written. (Despite not being able to play an instrument or sing well, I admit I WISHED I could get up on the stage and try. Made me consider attempting to pen lyrics on my napkin...LOL!) In my opinion, most were good, some were very good, a couple were excellent,...and all deserve credit for pursuing their dream. To anyone who knows Ladd and me, it will come as a surprise that we both agreed that one of the best performances was given by a young girl and guy seated, by chance, at our table. Our pictures aren't great because of the lightning, but below you will also find the link to their website should you wish to explore. Click here for the link
You should go if you ever get a chance...or if you write a song! We had a great time!
